Today we join the commemoration of the “International day for the elimination of Violence against Women”. This situation was internationally in 1993 in the “declaration about the elimination of violence against women” issued by the United Nations General Assembly.
There were and there are a wide range of cases in which little girls, young girls and women are still violence victims or survivors.
Many centuries went by governed by socio-cultural collective unawareness in which violence against women was common practice, attitudes and societies´ organization encouraged violence and discrimination against women.
Therefore, “violence against women” does not mean isolated or individual cases from specific communities but it means that it comes as a result of very old social practices. We know the only way of changing this cultural view, that undermines values and moral and physical women integrity as human beings, is by adopting a cross-sector approach.
This approach can also help with:
-children and young people wellbeing, so they can grow in a healthy and peaceful environment,
-the future and progress of our communities, nations and the world as a whole,
Dealing with the elimination of violence against women means a shared responsibility between: 1) Public goodwill, directed not only to provide justice but alto to strengthen social welfare and civics; and 2) Civil society: that has to develop; intensify and raise their awareness level to be able to rescue itself!
There is still a lot to do regarding this issue, vulnerability of the rights of millions of girls and women is still alarming situation. But thanks to the NON SILENCE of those three women we remember (who died in 1960) and to the NON SILLENCE of many other victims is that TODAY they can count on the existence and support of many Public and Private Entities.
