We have to be brave and generous – no matter which role we play as citizens of the world- to face the challange of building a differente world. A world without discrimination in which we can grow all together day by day, is what we have to build.
The Día Internacional de la NO VIOLENCIA (International day of non-violence) was celebrated a couple of days ago. Rivalry and competition has always been a recurring issue in humanity (in our families, in our schools, in our jobs, with our friends, etc.), but today the limits and rules are not clear and seem to have vanished and that is way rivalry and competition are now consider one kind of violence.
It is in this regards that “To compete” loses its true meaning, it seems that “healthy or fair competitions”, which resoults are always productive and adeventageos, are no longer valid, healthy competitions can only strengthen and balance fair societies.
I personally belive that, in the same way we teach to our children, before we decide to compete we should determine the value we attach to success and also the value we attach to failure: that is the key.
In so-called “modern societies”, it is not that we compete whith others but against them. From the first concept we can say decent practises are involved, while from the second concept we may say we are in the lando of “anything goes”.
When we worship success and depricate failure the concept of “to win nomatter what” appears, and that is how we open the door to violence, meaness and cruelty.
We should keep in mind that today’s children and youngsters are the ones that will play the leading roles – in different areas of our society- and today they learn by imitating adults (that means us). We see this happening daily in the news: children and young people intolerance to any kind of frustration is translated into violent acts of all kinds.
We are ALL responsible of working towards a better and kinder world that allows a fair development of coming generations. TOGETHER we should take up the culture of tolerance, respect to each other and social practises that prioritize ETHICS and HUMANKIND as the vore of the action.
